Polar Lights

This animated loop pays homage to the captivating beauty of polar bears. In spite of a world that is melting around them, these graceful giants continue to navigate the solitude of a disappearing tundra.

As our planet continues to be affected by global warming, Arctic ecosystems are being disproportionately affected. Temperatures in the Arctic are rising at least twice as fast as the global average. These rising temperatures cause the sea ice to melt earlier in the year. This spells disaster for the survival of polar bears who rely heavily on the sea ice environment for traveling, hunting, mating, resting, and in some areas, maternal dens. As the ice breaks up, the animals are forced to roam for long distances or on to shore, where they struggle to find food and feed their cubs.
